Vineyards

Each vineyard I work with has sparked something in my heart. A constant commitment to organic farming and care for the history and future of the land is at the heart of Intertidal. 

La Jolla del Norte Vineyard, Saint Helena, Napa Valley

Casa Nuestra Winery planted Riesling its parcel on the eastern hillside of Silverado Trail--named La Jolla del Norte, or the Jewel of the North. This vineyard has been a quietly iconic force in Napa Valley, farming organically long before it became common practice. The few rows of Riesling vines in this parcel were planted in the 1970s. The vineyard is littered with pieces of obsidian which call to mind the volcanic forces that formed this space and continue to evolve the character of everything grown here. 

 

Evangelho Vineyard, Antioch, CA

Evangelho is a vineyard that needs no introduction. Soft, warm, and well draining beach sand and ancient vines planted in the 1890s, surrounded by a scaffolding of power lines, the whirring of a passing Caltrain, the starkness of warehouse industry, and the calming (and cooling!) presence of the wind from the river delta make this place one of the most unique vineyards in America. Evangelho is lovingly owned and farmed by Bedrock Wine Co, and I was lucky enough to spend a growing season as a Viticulture intern in this space.
